Craft Template: Storytelling With a Fruity Twist
Ft. *The Watermelon Seed* by Greg Pizzoli + *The Watermelon Seed* Narrative Sequence Activity
It’s officially summer ~ which to me means afternoon picnics and evening bbqs at the part, soaking up the sunshine, and slurping those sweet summer-fruit-juices! One of my favorite summer fruits (aka the essence of summer)~ a fresh slice of crisp, cool, juicy-sweet, and bright red watermelon! So what better way to start off summer than with one of my favorite read alouds: "The Watermelon Seed" by Greg Pizzoli.
In *The Watermelon Seed,* a funny crocodile panics after swallowing a watermelon seed, imagining wild consequences ~ like vines growing from his ears and turning pink! I love the bold, neon-bright illustrations and the comic timing is perfection, making this a highly engaging and entertaining read aloud that transforms a common childhood fear into a hilarious and charming picture book!
For some more summery-fruity-storytelling fun, check out the bookish craft template below, inspired by *The Watermelon Seed.* Littles will lift the watermelon flaps to practice narrative sequencing and create their own Crocodile Craft to share what they imagine would happen if they swallowed a watermelon seed.
