We do already have “What’s That?” by Karen Chan which is a children’s book about a Chinese American boy and an Indian American girl who bond over the lunches they bring to school :)
Hello! My 4 year old daughter is shy (but we are careful not to label her as such, or make her feel like it’s a deficit in any way). She often clings to me at birthday parties, observes from the corner during dance class, and doesn’t interact with kids who want to play at the playground. She does feel comfortable and plays with kids at her daycare, but it’s a small group. She starts TK this year. All this to say — any suggestions of books for kids who are shy, or have a harder time warming up to new experiences?
My son’s tight-knit preschool class is going their separate ways this summer. Some kids are going to kindergarten, but some (including him) are staying for one more year. Lots of big feelings!
Hello Molly, End of the year always brings big feelings! While I don't know a specific one featuring children who stay in a class while some of their friends move on to the next grade, this new release about the Last Day of School helps with all of the big feelings! Try "On The Last Day of School" by Maggie C. Rudd
Any book recs for kids with Pakistani or Kashmiri heritage? Or mixed East Asian / South Asian heritage? ❤️
For Pakistani representation try these titles:
A Mermaid Girl by Sani Rafi
Little Seeds of Promise by Sana Rafi
Leila in Saffron by Rukhsanna Guidroz
A Girl Called Genghis Khan by Michelle Lord
I only know of one mixed East Asian/ South Asian picture book:
Simply Samrina by Shamim Rupani (features a mixed Japanese- Pakistani family)
Hope these are helpful!

I am familiar with that one! Love it!
Thank you so much!

I have several suggestions!
Here are a few about "shy" children:
-Shy Robin and the First Day of School by Jaime Kim (This could be a good one since your daughter is starting school too)
-Anonymoose by Shawna J.C. Tenney
- The Quiet One by Yiting Lee
- Shy Ones by Simona Ciraolo
And these ones are more about celebrating introverted/ quiet children:
- Quiet Karima by Nidhi Chanani
- Wallflowers by Mackenzie Joy
- Quiet is Strength by Mary Rand Hess
Hope these are helpful!
Thank you!
